چکیده

For the several decade years, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have been intensively studied because of their potential applicability to large-size flat panel displays, and more recently also solid-state lighting [1-4]. However, the lifetimes of the organic electronic devices are one of the most matters for the practical use of such devices, because of the ambient moisture and oxygen immediately ravage the organic semiconductors and low work function metal cathodes of the devices[5-8]. To solve this lifetime issue, a variety of encapsulation methods have been proposed. The conventional method for glass-based OLEDs (Figure 1.) has been to seal the OLED with a glass using ultraviolet curable resin such as epoxy resin based glue. A getter material such as calcium oxide (CaO) is often incorporated within the package to eliminate residual ambient moisture and oxygen and water penetrating through the epoxy resin from the edge.

Thin film encapsulation for flexible AM-OLED

Flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED) will be the ultimate display technology to customers and industries in the near future but the challenges are still being unveiled one by one. Thin-film encapsulation (TFE) technology is the most demanding requirement to prevent water and oxygen permeation into flexible OLED devices. As a polymer substrate does not offer the same barrier performance ...

Real-time and in-line Optical monitoring of Functional Nano-Layer Deposition on Flexible Polymeric Substrates

The roll-to-roll (r2r) deposition of functional nano-layers onto flexible polymeric substrates leads to the large scale production of multifunctional materials systems. These include the encapsulation (ultra barrier) layers, and Transparent Conductive Oxide (TCO) electrodes, for the low cost production of Flexible Electronic Devices (FEDs), such as flexible OLEDs and OPVs. The performance, effi...

DC lifetime of encapsulated organic light emitting diodes

Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) are ideal sources for chemical and biological optical sensors [1], due to their simplicity, low cost (disposable applications) and possibility to be integrated on chip and fabricated in the form of large 2D arrays (microarray fluorescence [2]) even on flexible plastic substrates. OLEDs with lifetimes of a few hundreds of hours at initial luminance values in...

Moisture Permeability Through Multilayered Barrier Films as Applied to Flexible OLED Display

Strict protection of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and other optoelectronic materials from direct contact with ambient moisture and oxygen is one of the major challenges in the development of flexible OLED displays and other flexible electronic devices. This problem is typically addressed by the use of polymeric substrates with multilayered barrier coatings comprising alternating organi...

Thin-film Encapsulation of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Using Single and Multilayer Structures of MgF2, YF3 and ZnS

In this research, the lifetime of green organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) is studied using four passivation layers. To encapsulate the OLEDs, MgF2, YF3, composed of alternating MgF2/ZnS and YF3/ZnS layers were grown by thermal vacuum deposition. Measurements show that the device lifetime is significantly improved by using YF3 and ZnS as passivation layers. However, diodes encapsulated by Mg...
